TEN SIGNIFICANT LIFESTYLES OF LORD SHIVA WE SHOULD FOLLOW

Lord Shiva, the superior god in Hindu Dharma, is generally called by a lot of names. He has more than one hundred images with various names. He is known as the supreme god, the creator and the one responsible for the destruction of the world. He has many facets and grants knowledge to those who seek for it. He lived by example, and some of his great lifestyles are discussed below.

(1) Do not support Injustice.

Lord Shiva did not allow injustice not even for once. He is fair in judgment and put an end to all wickedness. Even during the destruction of rakshasas as stated in the Hindu writings, he was fair. We should try not to tolerate evil at all in our environment and stand up against the injustice of any kind.

(2) Practice Self Control

When we are in a position of power, everything begins to work for our good. But we should not forget that self-control is the greatest secret to living a successful life. It makes us concentrate, decisive and keep us on the right path.

(3) Rage is never the Way

Lord Shiva spends a long time in quiet thought which makes him Maha Yogi. The welfare of the world mainly depends on his cool intellect. The only thing that troubled his heart and made him furious was the extremities. Thus, when fighting life’s battles, rage is never the way to choose. Rage will only cause you to overreact without any meaningful results. Maintaining peace and calmness will allow you to see things from a different point of view and triumph in battles.

(4) Joy is not the same as material things

If you do not have material things in life, it does not make you less worthy or inferior. Place your priorities right, being fond of fortune or opulence will not allow you to move forward or advance emotionally, physically and psychologically.

(5) Move along with it

Irrespective of what we experience in life, we should plan, prepare and move along or step over it.

(6) Whatever you are obsessed with, may destroy you

As stated in the old Vedic writings, Ramayana Ravana’s obsession over Sita brought about his destruction. Thus, your obsession will not yield anything positive but the end of your life. On the contrary, Lord Shiva freed himself of all desires and was never obsessed over anything or anyone.

(7) There is no beginning without an end

We human beings find it difficult to let go of things, properties, relationships, friends as well as passion or emotion. Notwithstanding, everything has an expiry date, and there is no beginning without an end. We need to master the art of getting over things fast and plan for future experiences.

(8) An investigation will bring a new path

Do not set on a new way without making necessary inquiry. Gang Ma, enclosed in Lord Shiva’s hair stands for the end to lack of knowledge. She symbolizes wisdom beyond human comprehension. Restraining yourself from your area of interest will not help you. Thus, it is imperative to search for relevant information before you plan to commence something new.

(9) Do not allow pride in your life

A person’s pride is the primary reason behind the obstruction and stumbling blocks. Pride will destroy a lot of ambitions, affinity, plan, and vision. It can make you resentful and antisocial. That is why Lord Shiva is always with the Trishul so as to control his pride. He never allowed his feelings to overcome his actions. Likewise, he did not bear anyone’s ego as well.

(10) Appreciate your life partner

Lord Shiva possesses the drum called “Damaru” which stands for the inventive contribution of the world. The first sound emerges from serenity, the rhythm that goes together with Shiva’s dance steps. It is the rhythmical throbbing of the universe known as Spanda. According to history, the drum designed like two triangles with their points juxtaposing stands for Shiva and Shakti and their romantic connection which revealed the physical world. The drum is the ancient sound that comes out from the calmness. The sides of the drum represent destruction and creation of the universe respectively. It is our world filled with creatures and massively increasing in size. The center of the drum is an everlasting region full of power. Hence it is known as the location for sacred unification of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti

Lord Shiva is also referred to as Ardhanarishwar which literally means partly male and partly female. His better half, Mata Parvati was part of his important components. He never for once disrespected her. She was his Shakti and Lord Shiva can never be separated from strength. Therefore, our mate, life partner, husband/ wife, spouse or better half are really part of us and we need to make them feel loved and appreciated.
