Astrology is the redeemer of humanity from pain and agony. It is something created with excellent skills. It is also the knowledge of the natural world, which can take away afflictions and replace it with blessings and felicity. In fact, two different types of Astrology exists which are the Vedic astrology and Western astrology. Their significant differences do not only lie in where they originated from but also extend to some other important aspects as well. Irrespective of their differences, Vedic astrology (Jyotish or Hindu Astrology) and Western Astrology both aimed at the same thing. Their primary goal is to get rid of difficulties, challenges and boost felicity.
Generally, Astrology is the best resources to evaluate the possibilities of our lives that may eventually come to reality. When comparing Western astrology to Vedic astrology, the former is still a new practice while the latter has been in existence for a very long period, with written texts in the Hindu sacred writings to validate this claim. Some of these dissimilarities are discussed below.
(1) Place of origin
According to its name, Vedic astrology originates from the authentic Hindu sacred writings (Vedas). These authentic Hindu holy writings were claimed to be the first sacred writings on planet Earth. Vedic astrology was created by the ancient fortune tellers and sages known as Richis of the Hindu subcontinent, many years ago. Therefore, Vedic astrology is devout and dateless. Also, it is proven to be the Holy Scriptures transferred to the sages back in the days.
On the contrary, Western Astrology dates back to the livelihood and intellectual growth in old Greece. Egyptian civilization also made an impact on Western Astrology. Therefore, Western Astrology is the product of the developed intellectuality as well as delving into the European mind.
(2) Arithmetic in Astrology
The Vedic Astrology method revolves around a constant Zodiac. When a particular planet (Nakshatra) is in the background, it is referred to as “Sidereal Zodiac”. The Sidereal year is defined as the period required for the earth to rotate around the Sun, with reference to the stationary star Chitra. Also, the length of time presumed to be twenty minutes more than the topical year.
In the case of Western Astrology, it operates with a Zodiac that is not constant (movable). This method is founded on the exposure of the Earth to the Sun. It is referred to as Tropical Zodiac as well.
(3) Planets
There are nine planets presents in the Vedic Astrology namely Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and the two nodes of the moon know as Rahu-Ketu. In addition, when the twelve symbols are in use, Vedic Astrology adopts twenty-seven constellations of the moon called Nakshatras. Each of these constellations covers a period of thirteen degrees and twenty minutes respectively.
While in Western Astrology planets such as Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are included in the total number of planets used to forecast about the future which is not accepted in Vedic Astrology. Apart from this, Western Astrology does not have any regard for Nakshatras or constellations.
(4) Time System
Vedic Astrology adopts a method to time the planetary system is known as Vimshotarri Dasha system when the planetary transition for future occurrence has been broken down.
In Western Astrology, the Vimshotarri Dasha system is not applied. It instead examines the planetary transition with regards to their progress and motion.
(5) Solar and Lunar System
Western Astrology seems to lean towards the movement and position of the Sun. So, this accentuation is majorly about the study of mind and behavior (psychology), disposition and temperament of a person.
On the contrary, Sidereal or the Vedic system is an astrology system based on the moon which oversees whole regions of life. To crown it all, Vedic Astrology has evolved more than Western Astrology.
